I pray this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well in the wake of the recent hurricane. We all experienced varying levels of challenge and disruption, but as a community rooted in faith, we are reminded of the power of prayer and unity in difficult times. We thank God for His mercy in safeguarding our community, and we hold in our hearts all those who have been more severely affected. Please know that our prayers are with each of you, especially those who are dealing with loss, damage, or displacement.

A special thank you to our Angels Outreach Committee for organizing the Blessing Bags project. Please take some home and give them to someone in need that you may know or see in your daily travels. Thank you also to everyone who donated items to make this possible. 

Today, on the morning show, I announced a surprise Jean Day. Last Friday was our first opportunity to wear our Be Kind shirts but that didn't happen. Therefore, tomorrow everyone may wear their Be Kind t-shirts and jean pants or shorts or their PE shorts. This is the only spirit wear students may wear tomorrow.

Let us continue to place our trust in God, remembering that "He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1). 

This month, as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we are learning about various traditions and art forms. We are creating Hojalata, a type of Mexican tin folk art where students decorate foil sheets to make beautiful Aztec sun designs. We’re also playing Lotería, a traditional Mexican bingo game that uses pictures instead of numbers, as a  fun way to practice and learn Spanish. Additionally, we are learning the Mexican Hat Dance (El Jarabe Tapatío), a lively and colorful traditional dance. It’s a fun and creative way for students to explore and appreciate these vibrant Hispanic traditions!

Girls Volleyball: The varsity beat Christ the King, two games to one. The JV won their first match of the season, beating Christ the King, two games to zero. The varsity lost to St. Joseph, two games to one, to bring their overall record to 6-3, and 5-1, in Catholic league play. The JV won their second match in a row beating St. Joseph, two games to zero. The Mustangs are back on the court today for the last regular season match of the season against St. Lawrence here at St. Stephen. Varsity match at 4:00 pm and the JV at 5:00 pm.  The JV tournament that was scheduled for last Saturday was canceled due to the hurricane.  The varsity playoffs start on Tuesday with a home match against a TBD opponent at 4:00 pm in the FLC.  
Coed Soccer:  The game against Incarnation that was postponed last Thursday due to the hurricane has been rescheduled at 4:15 pm Wednesday, October 9, at Incarnation. The Mustangs beat Corpus Christi, 3-1, to improve their record to 4-1. The goals were scored by Diego M., and Matthew B. with two goals. The Mustangs are back on the field today with a game against Mother Teresa here at St. Stephen at 4:15 pm. They wrap up the regular season next week with a game Tuesday against Christ the King here at St. Stephen at 4:00 pm and Wednesday against Incarnation at Incarnation at 4:15 pm. The playoffs are October 14-17.

 
Girls JV & varsity basketball, and boys JV & varsity track seasons will start the week of October 21. Girls in 5th-6th can try out for JV and 7th-8th for varsity. There are no tryouts for boys track, everyone who signs up participates. JV is 5th-6th and varsity is 7th-8th. Both sports seasons run from mid-October until mid-December and are a 3-4 day a week commitment. Students interested should sign up with Coach Green starting next week.
