Good Afternoon St. Stephen Families!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. Please remember that this Friday is a half-day noon dismissal. If you child is staying in Extended Day, be sure you pack a lunch for them. Dismissal on Friday, and every half-day, will be classroom pick-up. Please park in a parking spot and come into the building to pick up your children.
By now the students have settled into their routines at school and have completed assessments in most subjects. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please be sure to reach out to the teachers. We are here to help your child reach his full potential and working together will help to achieve that objective.
Please take the time to read all of Tidbits as much is happening at school this month.
This weekend is our first Uniform Weekend of the year. Students who come to Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday will receive a Holy Card from the priest at the end of Mass. This weekend, the holy card depicts a picture and prayer to St. Benedict. St. Benedict of Nursia, a patron saint of students and the twin brother of St. Scholastica, was the founder of the Benedictine monastery at Monte Cassino and the Father of Western Monasticism. The Rule he established became the norm for monastic living throughout Europe. Please be sure your child receives his holy card and takes the time to pray to St. Benedict for his protection against evil and inspiration to always be a faithful child of God. If your child brings their St. Benedict holy card to school on Monday, they may have a free dress day. Students who collect all the holy cards this year will receive a gift at the end of the year.

Free Eye Screening
Free vision screening will be offered to your child(PK3 - 6th grade) by your local Lions Club on September 16 & 17, 2024*. The screening is performed by using an instrument that takes a picture of your child’s eyes and digitally determines if some potential eye problems exists. These potential problems may lead to vision loss or blindness. No physical contact is made with your child and eye drops are not used.
If you would like your student to participate in the Free Eye Screening then please fill out the Vision Consent Form Attached by September 11, 2024. Printed copies of the forms are available at the front desk.

*Correction from the email sent out on September 3. The screening dates are for Monday and Tuesday September 16 and 17 during school.
Spirit Wear Shop Opens

Spirit Store Extended
Closes 9/15 Sunday at Midnight
The store will be open 8/5 at 8AM through 9/15 at Midnight. All proceeds will help the PTCO fund activities for the students during the school year. The Spirit Wear purchased through this link is for weekend wear and only allowed to be worn in school on specific school days. The clothing purchased through this link is not part of our school uniform but can be worn to school on days considered Free Dress Pass Days and Jean Days. The weekly school newsletter sent out on Thursday and the school calendar will note when there is a Jean Day or a Free Dress Pass Day. The school handbook also provides info regarding uniforms and Spirit Wear. Delivery will be approximately one month after the close of the store. Angels Among Us Requests Student Artwork
In Celebration of 25 years Supporting SSCS, Angels Among Us is offering students the opportunity to use their creativity and skills to recreate the Angels Among Us Wings. A print of the Wings is provided to use for your design. The design should closely resemble the wings provided and be recreated using a material of your choice. Suggestions include wood, ceramic, canvas, pottery, paper mâché, cardboard, foam, plastic, and fabric. Feel free to use paint, feathers, lights or other embellishments. The presentation can be 3 or 4 dimensional, a carving, a sculpture, a painting or wherever your imagination takes you. Be as creative as you like. The size should be no more than 3 feet by 3 feet and no heavier than 4 pounds.
All entries will be part of the Angels Gala on 2/15 and will not be returned to the student. Artwork is to be delivered to the school office on or before Monday, November 11. Our principal will select the most creative and best executed work of art and the winning artist’s parents will receive two complimentary tickets to Angels.

MUSTANG SPORTS:
The girls volleyball and coed soccer teams have their last week of just practice before the games and matches start next week.
The girls volleyball teams have two matches next week. The Mustangs host Mother Teresa on Tuesday in the FLC with the varsity match at 4:15 pm and the JV at 5:15 pm. They travel to play at Villa Madonna on Thursday with the varsity match at 4:00 pm and the JV at 5:00 pm.
The coed soccer team opens the season next Thursday against St. Joseph, here at St. Stephen at 4:00 pm.

Safe Environment Training and Fingerprints
Everyone needs updated safe environment training and fingerprints in order to volunteer in the school or to chaperone a field trip. Safe environment and fingerprints are good for 5 years. Attached here are the instructions on how to get your safe environment certificate and to have your fingerprints done.
