Hello St. Stephen Families!
Thank you to everyone who has made our book fair week a success! I have heard MANY compliments about the switch to Good News as our book fair vendor. Everyone has been impressed with the selection and quality of the books. Thank you Yesenia Dieringer and Nicki Gallagher for researching various book fairs and bringing this opportunity to our school. Thank you also to the volunteers and our families who provided the delicious treats.
I look forward to seeing lots of Grandparents/friends tomorrow at Mass and then throughout the morning at school. Details about the day can be found below. There will be an opportunity for Grandparents to visit multiple classrooms. Teachers will have schedules in their classrooms.

Retake Day and Class Pictures
Thursday, October 5th
Every class will be photographed. Please place your order online.
- Use the online PREPAY option to order pictures. Go to: VernonPhoto.com/ClassPrepay
Online PREPAY eliminates lost or forgotten order forms and will be available before picture day and until one week after. This is not a proofing site to view your photos. It is simply an online way to place an order with your credit card.

All students must be in their regular school uniform for the class picture. If you have PE that day the teacher will instruct which classes might need to bring in their PE uniform.
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RETAKES
If you didn't purchase the original photo and would like a retake, please purchase a package for the NEW photo. DO NOT purchase the original photo. Use the retake pass link below to purchase the picture package.

In order to have a picture taken your child MUST have a RETAKE DAY PASS.

Retake Day is scheduled on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Retake Day is for:
- Students who did not have their photo taken on the original picture day (absent or new)
- If you purchased a package but are not happy with something that we should have caught (for example: bad expression, food on face, clothing mishap). Please have your child bring their complete package & their retake pass to give to the photographer. We will not reprint new packages without receiving them.
RETAKE POLICY:
Packages are replaced at NO CHARGE IF:
- The student has a bad expression
- Something is wrong with the photo that we should have caught and fixed
Pictures are retaken with an $8 'retake fee' IF:
- If you purchased a package and something will be different about the new package that was not under our control (example: change of clothing, haircut, glasses on or off, braces off)
- If you did not purchase a package, don't want to purchase a package but want a different photo in the yearbook
(Please send your child with their retake pass and have them give it to the photographer. New packages will not be printed without them)
Please do not approve or download your digital image if you would like a retake, there will be a charge to retake the photo for images that have been downloaded. No refunds will be made after 30 days from delivery of your order.
Parents and Students Enjoy Sharing Morning Coffee
The Annual Book Fair was a great opportunity to say hello to parents you know and make new friends as you enjoy a cup of coffee and your favorite Dunkin Donut. The decorations were fun and spirited and the books offered something new and fresh to satisfy the most ardent love for reading. Thursday Family Night and Friday Morning with Grand Friends and Grandparents are also times you can visit the Book Fair with your student and enjoy our SSCS Community.
A round of applause for all volunteers who helped make the Book Fair a special event for our school families. A heartfelt thank you to Pam, Vylam, Anahi and The PTCO Executive Board for sharing their talents and time to make the Book Fair a success. Our sincere appreciation to the Bosley Family and the Apostoleres Family for their generous donations. And a big hug to our Marvelous Mustang who visited with us both mornings!

Parents, if you are not able to attend any of the four family or friend book fair opportunities during the week of 9/25, you will be able to send in this Permission Form for your student(s)! Link to the Permission slip Form.
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge
Date: Saturday, October 21st 2023
Time: 9:30 am to 1:00pm
Location: St Stephen Soccer Field
The Knights of Columbus Council 14084 invites ALL Boys and Girls, Ages 9 to 14 to come out and participate in the 2023 Soccer Challenge. Parents, please pick up the Participant/Entry Form from the School Office or see below the Link to the Form.
Request you please turn in entry forms no later than Wednesday, October 11th to the School Office. This allows time to complete compiling the certificates for those who compete and set up rosters.
There will be water and snacks available during the event.
Parking: Park in front of the Family Life Center and check in at the table at the front entry. We warmly welcome you to this year’s event and hope to see a good turnout from each age group!!
Own The Avenue is a year-round fundraiser for the PTCO and gives you a great way to give your child a shout out for the school community to see! Birthdays, achievements, any positive vibes and kudos are welcome, and they certainly make your student feel special!!
The sign is located on the corner of our school parking lot and will be viewed and celebrated for the entire week. A PTCO member will be responsible for putting up the sign and after the week is done, the sign will be sent home with your student for yours to keep or to reuse for a future week!
In a nutshell here’s how it works:
If you have an existing sign, the cost is $30 for the week. If we need to order a new sign, the cost is $50 for the week. Please make payments through the school’s front office. To sign up, please use the following link and more details will follow. Please note, new signs take up to 2 weeks to process and receive from our vendor. IMPORTANT: Please note, this is a yearly fundraiser that is on a first come, first served basis (via SignUpGenius). For example, if you purchase a sign this year for a specific week 9-17-23 thru 9-23-23, that same week is not guaranteed to you for future years. It is required that you sign up each school year if you
wish to participate.

MUSTANG SPORTS:
Girls Volleyball: The varsity has lost their past two matches, losing to Corpus Christi two games to zero, and to Christ the King two games to one. The varsity has one match left in the regular season today against St. Joseph here at St. Stephen in the FLC at 4:00 pm. The varsity playoffs start next Tuesday with the Mustang opponent and match site still to be determined. The JV is on a three match win streak. They beat Corpus Christi two games to zero and Christ the King in three games. The JV wraps up their season this week with a home match today against St. Joseph here at St. Stephen at 5:00 pm, and on Saturday in the JV tournament at Christ the King from 8:30 am -2:00 pm.
Coed Soccer: The soccer team tied Corpus Christi, 0-0, on Tuesday. The Mustangs beat Incarnation, 6-0, and the goals were scored by Ethan D. with a hat trick, Diego M. with two goals, and Joseph D. with a goal. Next week is the last week of the regular season with games on Tuesday against Nativity at Nativity and Thursday against Christ the King here at St. Stephen. Both games start at 4:00 pm. The playoffs are the week of October 9-13.
Girls JV & varsity basketball and boys JV and varsity track are the next school sports. Those seasons run through mid December and are a 3-4 day a week commitment. Girls in 5th-6th grade can try out for JV basketball and girls in 7th-8th can try out for varsity basketball. Boys in 5th-6th can run JV track and boys in 7th-8th grade can run varsity track. Girls basketball tryouts and boys track practice will start the week of October 16-20. Students interested in participating should sign up with Coach Green at PE or lunch starting next week. We are excited to have parent volunteer, Coach Jenn Daoud, back as the boys track coach again this season. Coach Daoud does a great job coaching the boys and girls track teams.

Safe Environment Training and Fingerprints
Everyone needs updated safe environment training and fingerprints in order to volunteer in the school or to chaperone a field trip. Safe environment and fingerprints are good for 5 years. Attached here are the instructions on how to get your safe environment certificate and to have your fingerprints done.
